Avalon ISD "Recognized" for five years standing

Preliminary TAKS testing results for Avalon ISD are, once again, projecting the AEIS rating from the Texas Education Agency for 2009-2010 to be that of a “Recognized” district. Official and final district and campus ratings will be published by TEA on Friday, July 30th. This will be the fifth consecutive year that Avalon ISD will have the distinction as a recognized district. The graduating class of 2011 achieved a 100% passing rate in all areas. (Continued…)

Earth Day is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental “teach-in” held on April 22, 1970. Ronola Shears was happily living and working in Dallas for CBI as assistant to the controller. It has always been her husband’s (Terry Shears) dream to move from the big city to a small town and purchase a house with a few acres of land. Two years ago this dream became his reality which meant Ronola had to commute from Avalon to Dallas. “It was a very hard year commuting back and forth from Avalon to Dallas. The Avalon Eagles are starting their third year in organized football. Avalon’s, JV and Varsity Six-Man Football squads scrimmaged the Bynum Bulldogs in Bynum this past Friday. The Eagles expect to have their best season since first putting on the shoulder pads back in 2005. (Continued…)

After the students enjoyed a delicious complementary dinner -hot dogs, chips, cookies, and sweet tea, the awards banquet got started. On March 6, 2009, the Avalon Eagles made history. It was the first time in 10 years, since Kris Marsall has been head coach, that the Eagles made it this far in playoffs. Though they didn’t win, Avalon played in the Region III Division Tournament at Stephen F. Austin University. (Continued…)
