The first couple weeks of April, Avalon elementary students planted a flower garden and a vegetable garden from start to finish in honor of Earth Day. They took the plants out of the little cartons, dug the holes and planted them. They did it all! (Continued…)

Preliminary TAKS testing results for Avalon ISD are, once again, projecting the AEIS rating from the Texas Education Agency for 2009-2010 to be that of a “Recognized” district. Official and final district and campus ratings will be published by TEA on Friday, July 30th. This will be the fifth consecutive year that Avalon ISD will have the distinction as a recognized district. The graduating class of 2011 achieved a 100% passing rate in all areas. (Continued…)

Any new technology to help the school or any new program to help the students learn is what David Delbosque (Avalon ISD Superintendent) wants for Avalon ISD. Earth Day is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental “teach-in” held on April 22, 1970. Monday evening Avalon ISD’s cafeteria was overflowing with hungry children and their parents eating hotdog dinners while anticipating the big Easter Egg Hunt. There also was a surprise guest, the Easter Bunny! He was ready to have his picture taken with all of the children. (Continued…)

Ronola Shears was happily living and working in Dallas for CBI as assistant to the controller. It has always been her husband’s (Terry Shears) dream to move from the big city to a small town and purchase a house with a few acres of land. Two years ago this dream became his reality which meant Ronola had to commute from Avalon to Dallas. “It was a very hard year commuting back and forth from Avalon to Dallas. I wouldn’t get home until seven at night,” explained Ronola. (Continued…)

The Avalon Eagles are starting their third year in organized football. Avalon’s, JV and Varsity Six-Man Football squads scrimmaged the Bynum Bulldogs in Bynum this past Friday. The Eagles expect to have their best season since first putting on the shoulder pads back in 2005. (Continued…)

Avalon ISD is having 2009-2010 registration for ALL students PreK-12 Tuesday and Wednesday, August 11 and 12 from 12:00-8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, August 13 from 9:00-3:00. Avalon ISD announced the results of the district’s 2009 TAKS testing. According to school administration, based on preliminary results from all tests taken this school year and an evaluation of all subgroups, Avalon anticipates maintaining the state rating of “Recognized” for the fourth consecutive year. On Thursday, June 4th 2009, eager parents filed into Avalon’s Monolithic dome gym to see their sons and daughters graduate….from kindergarten! The beautiful young ladies and handsome young men were stunning in their formal attire and graduation caps as they entered the gym. (Continued…)

The Avalon Elementary Awards banquet was held on Tuesday in the Avalon Dome gym. After the students enjoyed a delicious complementary dinner -hot dogs, chips, cookies, and sweet tea, the awards banquet got started. Superintendent, Mr. David Del Bosque welcomed all excited students, smiling parents and enthusiastic teachers while introducing everyone to Miss Margaret Day, Avalon’s Elementary Principal. May 15th, 2009 Avalon Elementary students participated in Field Day. This event was organized by Tony Hernandez and David Morgan. On March 6, 2009, the Avalon Eagles made history. It was the first time in 10 years, since Kris Marsall has been head coach, that the Eagles made it this far in playoffs. Though they didn’t win, Avalon played in the Region III Division Tournament at Stephen F. Austin University. (Continued…)
