Italy ISD is releasing students early today, Tuesday, May 21, due to a severe weather forecast. The elementary students are being released at 1:15 p.m. The high school/junior high school campus will be releasing at 1:30. A severe storm is expected to pass thru Ellis County around 3:00 p.m. Italy ISD wants the community to feel free come to the dome to seek shelter if the need arises. The Italy ISD staff and Board of Trustees send our heartfelt condolences and thoughts to the people of the Newtown Public School District. In light of this tragedy, Italy ISD has reviewed our safety plans and measures to best ensure the safety of our students and staff. Additionally, and in compliance with the Texas Education Code, Italy ISD conducts a safety audit at least once every three years. We last completed such an audit in August of 2011. (Continued…)

November 9th is the last date to nominate students for the gifted and talented program at the elementary and the high school. If anyone wants to nominate a student to be tested for the Gifted and Talented Program, they should get the required paperwork submitted to Melissa Bedard at the elementary or to Sharan Farmer at the high school. The annual George Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund barbecue dinner will be held Friday, October 19, 2011 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Italy High School Cafeteria. Cost for the meal is $8 per person, child plates will be $5. The meal will be catered by Bubba’s of Ennis. (Continued…)
His dream was that any student at Italy High School who worked hard and had a desire to go to college could do so. He was also a dreamer and a planner and as such, he knew that this would require a lot of money and would need many people involved. This was not to be a one time scholarship, but a perpetual fund where only the interest on the principal was used, so that it would outlive us all. (Continued…)
Hank Hollywood, Athletic Director of Italy High School, wishes to inform the surrounding business community that he has authorized All-American Sports Posters to produce Italy High School’s athletic posters. All-American Sports Posters will provide terrific looking athletic posters and will help the athletic department raise much needed additional funding. Italy High School principal, Lee Joffre, has release the testing schedule for End of Course (EOC) testing for the week of May 7th through May 10th. All freshman and some 8th grade students are required to take an EOC if they are enrolled in Algebra I, Algebra II, World Geography and Biology. The Commissioner of Education, Robert Scott, announced that is he deferring implementation of the new 15 percent grading requirement connected to the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness End-Of-Course examinations. Italy ISD will host a parent EOC/STAAR Info-Meeting on Tuesday, December 13 at 6:00pm and Wednesday, December 14 at 5:30pm in the Italy High School cafeteria. The administration is hopeful that by offering this meeting on two separate evenings that all parents will be able to come to one or the other of the meetings. Parents of 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grader students are urged to attend. STAAR and EOC testing requirements will be discussed as well as how these tests will affect graduation. (Continued…)
The Stafford Elementary Honors Assembly honored students for their work during the first and second six weeks of school. The gymnasium was filled with smiling parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles and students.
