On May 3rd, 2013, the first Annual Cinco de Mayo celebration took place in downtown Italy at it’s new pavilion. The weather could not have co-operated more as it was a warm evening. Distracted driving is a serious problem and presents a serious threat to public safety, both to the people doing it and to other motorists on the road. With that in mind recently Mayor Pruitt, the City Council and the Maypearl Police Department joined forces in passing a City Ordinance banning the use of wireless devices for any purpose other than making a telephone call while operating a motor vehicle. West, Texas, home of the best kolaches—maybe in the world, has been victim of an explosion so deep and so wide, it has affected the nation. The West Fertilizer plant exploded at 7:53 pm last Wednesday and many lost their lives, their homes, their loved ones and their peace of mind. Italy — Avoid traveling north on Highway 35 toward Waxahachie. A tractor trailer exploded and caught fire backing up traffic for several hours along Chambers Creek Bridge. As in previous Easter egg hunts, fun was abounding on Saturday morning. Children from Italy and beyond grabbed their baskets or buckets and enjoyed hunting eggs at two different places. Thrilled with the thoughts of eggs filled with surprises, the kids checked high and low to fill up their basket. The first egg hunt was at the Dunlap Library and afterwards, the children moved to the Upchurch Ball Fields for the Mayor’s fulfilled gathering. (Continued…)

The 27th Annual Tour d’Italia was sponsored by the Lone Star Cyclists and over 1050 people registered and rode the countryside around Italy.
